LUNCH GROUPS
I facilitate lunchtime groups throughout the week. Small Group Counseling involves a counselor working with two or more students together. Group discussions may be based on structured learning activities or may be relatively unstructured. Group members have an opportunity to learn from each other. They can share ideas, give and receive feedback, increase their awareness, gain new knowledge, practice skills, and think about their goals and actions. Group discussions may be problem-centered, where attention is given to particular concerns or problems. Discussions may be growth-centered, where general topics are related to personal and academic development. Quite often it is comforting for a student to work with peers in a small group setting to discuss similar concerns or brush-up on various skills. Group members are selected by parental, teacher, or self-referral. Parental permission is mandatory prior to a student participating in a group.
These are some of the groups that are available this year, but additional groups may be formed based on students needs:

- Social Clubs: The social skills lunch groups serve as a means for helping more children develop friendships, feel a sense of belonging at school and provide a positive school climate.
- Big Buddies: Sixth graders spend recess with 1st grade students playing games, getting to know each other, and providing mentoring.
- Girls Empowered: A lunchtime program for 4th grade girls that focuses on issues faced by young girls, such as bullying, cliques, relational aggression, and self-esteem.
- Kids Turn: Support groups for students who have experienced a significant change, loss or difficulty in his/her family.
